Tanya Piejus
Tanya lives in New Zealand's capital city, Wellington, and has over 15 years' experience as a writer, editor, communications adviser, publications manager and website manager.
She worked in the New Zealand public sector for six years writing and editing communications plans, media releases, speeches, web content and other material. Most recently, she worked for the Ministry for the Environment where she was able put her ecology degree to use. She now works freelance while studying photography and interior design part-time.
Tanya has written content for several websites, including the BBC Drama, EastEnders and Education WebGuide sites, and has had travel articles published in Australian backpackers magazine The Word and the Dominion Post newspaper in Wellington. She won her first writing competition at primary school with a short story about escaped zoo animals. In 2004, she won the DIVER magazine 40th anniversary writing competition with The Eel's Tale on the theme of diving and time. She was also awarded the Best Plain English Champion - Individual trophy at the inaugural WriteMark awards in 2006. She remains a passionate advocate for plain English.
In her spare time, Tanya volunteers as a lead ranger guide at Zealandia: The Karori Sanctuary Experience in Wellington, plays softball, goes scuba diving, and takes part in non-profit theatre productions on and off stage. She's also a keen traveller and is heading to Rarotonga in June.
